We are welcoming 2020 with open arms. We love the chance for a clean slate and all the new opportunities it presents, and this year we are personally dedicating some time and energy into checking out some really cool things in and around our great city of Houston.
Our Montrose apartments keep you near a ton of great things to see and do with your friends in the New Year. If you don’t know where to kick off your Houston New Year, we’ve created a list of five things we think you should add to your calendar. If one of your resolutions is to explore Houston more, let us know where you are planning to go or what we should add to our list!
5 Things in Houston to Check Out in the New Year:
Rosalie Italian Soul: Located inside the C. Baldwin Hotel, guests can finally experience chef Chris Cosentino’s first Houston restaurant. Enjoy a unique “menu of Italian-American dishes, ranging from eggplant parm to pepperoni pizza, awaits, along with a seriously chic dining room and a solid list of wines that ranges from totally affordable bottles to splurge-worthy special occasion sips.” Located near our Montrose apartments at 400 Dallas Street, come hungry and you’re guaranteed to leave full. Chevron Houston Marathon: This annual race takes place January 19th. Although race entries are already full (it fills up fast in Houston!), it’s such a fun and unique event to be a spectator at. Lucky for 2900 West Dallas residents, it runs right near our Montrose apartments (we personally think this is the most fun spot to come watch, so invite your friends to join you and cheer the runners on!). This annual 26.2, 13.1 and 3.1-mile run begins and ends at Downtown’s George R. Brown Convention Center has steadily grown to attract more than 20,000 entrants from around the world and 200,000 spectators. Fun fact: the first Houston Marathon took place in 1972 with a whopping 113 runners and about twice as many spectators.
Bayou City Art Festival: Another fun Houston event taking place March 27 – 29, 2020 is definitely one to add to your calendar, whether you’re into art or not. It’s just a good excuse to get outside with friends and family and check out the local art scene. The Bayou City Art Festival at Memorial Park kicks off spring as Houston’s premier outdoor fine arts event with 300+ national artists working in 19 artistic media are juried and invited to show and sell their art at this great event. There will be a ton of amazing art, but there will also be entertainment, food vendors, food trucks and much more at this annual event, so it really has something for everyone!
Art Car Parade: Join the 250,000+ spectators that line the streets of downtown Houston to catch a glimpse of this annual parade, showcasing Houston’s most outlandish folk art creations as cars. You’ll have to see it to believe it, trust us! The Fruit Mobile, a 1967 Ford station wagon, started the craze in 1986. Truly a sight to see, the parade is produced by the Orange Show Center for Visionary Art, and this year’s event takes place April 16 – 19, 2020, so mark your calendars.
Guard and Grace: One of Houston’s hottest new restaurants is only a few minutes from our Montrose apartments. Head to One Allen Center for lunch or dinner, and don’t miss their Houston Social Hour, every Monday – Friday from 3 – 6 p.m with unique offerings like charcuterie boards, sushi, oysters and other light bites paired with tasty wine, cocktails and beer.
